Brandon Smillie: Canadiens Blue Line for the 17-18 Season - Brandon Smillie
No decision before August 15th for Butcher, that's when Colorado loses his rights and he becomes a UFA
That's why I'm not very fond of NCAA players...they take forever to get into the team's system and can decide to say screw you at the end of it. |

Agree with Stinger.. big issue with a lot of the NCAA guys we keep drafting is they could all do the same as Butcher/Vesey |

That's a sad blue line - Fredobbface
Mark Streit is not very good, at all, any more.
He was never fast (he's slower now), but his indecisiveness with the puck and unwillingness to shoot from the points, which used to be his strengths, make him a 7, at best. |

I see Streit in and out of the lineup playing 10-15 minutes a night on a 3rd line and getting PP time but certainly not a regular on the 2nd with Perty...
Alzner - Weber
Schlemko - Perty
Jerabek/Morrow/Streit/Davidson (how many of those do they really need?) - Benn |

Jerabek will start the year with laval, Habs will have 8 D's with the team. |

Really don't get MB's strategy of always getting 3-4 extra 7th defensemen and 5-6 extra 3rd-4th liners... |

I have my doubts about the idea of signing Alzner especially to play with Weber. I think the Habs would have said it clearly right from the beginning. I still believe it's a bad, boring, expensive signing, but I hope to be wrong. |

I have the same feeling about Petry.
But as sad as it is, Alzner is now our best Left D and Petry the best puck mover.

He'll get the ice time and opportunity to do so.
He can step up or remain blah. |

So Mcphee said before the expansion draft that he would not make any deals with teams that trade players around to avoid Vegas taking that player. It seems to me that's what the Beaulieu trade was for the habs, right? Or was he just not in the future plans? It seems like he would have at least helped that 3rd pair, even though he had clearly fallen down the depth chart.
So is Mcphee a liar, or did bergeven just want him gone? |

I think Beaulieu was traded more for his off ice habits and influence on other players than anything else, but it was probably part of it, yes. |
